"Woodworking" or "working with wood", for me goes beyond just a passion, its almost a way of life and is a big part of my life!

Started off at first with whittling at a young age with my grandfather's pocket knife using branches I found in the yard. Progressed to larger tools in my young teenage years building cubby houses and tree houses on the farm. My dad yelling at me from time to time was a reminder that tools borrowed had to be returned in a timely manner!!

During my secondary schooling I was one of those girls who wanted to do woodworking as a subject and back then, it wasn't allowed. Punishment was having to do sewing and cooking .... thank goodness things have changed, .. guessing this also gives you an idea of how old I am !!

Growing up on a cane farm in Far North Queensland where it didn't matter whether you were a boy or girl, you learnt how to do things including driving the farm machinery.

Being one of those kids who didn't really enjoy school with respect to the maths and science stuff, was way more interested in the creative classes.

On finishing grade 12 all I wanted was to get a job and some thing with my creativity and my hands. After much deliberation I decided to become an engineering draftsperson, crazy I know as there was so much math involved .. yeah go figure !!

On completing my Assoc. Diploma of Civil Engineering, I was extremely lucky to have worked for some amazing companies and organisations during my career. I was involved in a huge variety of projects from designing subdivisions along with all the associated infrastructure, marina and wharf design to name but a few during this time. Learning so much was an amazing experience and discovered I was good at my job.

Interesting fact - When I first started, there were no computers, everything done with pen and paper but by the time I decided it was time for a change everything was done on computers !!

Not in this workshop, pencil and paper is how the designs are created and planned.
