Restoration of a Nest of Tables

A customer had this set of tables that has been in their family for well over 50 years and they had been used for a variety of things and the test of time had taken its toll and they were in need of some attention.

There were some loose joints, broken mortise and tenon joints and some dints in the surface as well as some oily type stains on the largest table, along with the finish had seen better days and was flaking off and no longer protecting the wood.
Each of the tables was assessed for repairs and they were carried out before a great deal of cleaning and sanding to remove the old finish, stains and dints.
The new finish was applied in several coats to build up the layers and ensure a hard waring surface. The final protection layer of a light coat of beeswax and mineral oil buffed to a soft lustre and they were good to return home.
The customer was surprised and very pleased with the end result and they now have a functional use again in the home.
