The conversion of Hutch to Bookcase

A customer who has a large collection of books asked to have the old kauri pine hutch converted to a freestanding bookcase to match the other bookcases. The customer also had an old ironing board of the same timber that was to be used to make the conversion and maintain the authenticity and look.

A new solid base was constructed as well as a new bottom shelf then the main body of the hutch was attached and secured with screws. The new plinth was made to match the other bookcases in the room.

The bookcase now stands proud and is full of books and the client very happy with the item as it is now functional, matching and what they asked for.

Garden Wheelbarrow Wheels

A tired old garden wooden wheel barrow was in need of some new wheels as the original ones had seen better days ....!

The metal rims were removed and wire brushed to remove the surface rust and then coated on the inside with anti rust metal paint to protect them a little longer.

The new wheels cut from a suitable outdoor timber on the table saw and a hole in the centre for the axle.

The rims reattached with galvanised nails and ready to be attached to the barrow and back into the garden.

Beautiful Cedar Dining Chairs

To work on an entire set of dining chairs with such beauty and character was an honour and a privilege .....

The chairs, each of them with their own character, had a variety of repairs from loose joints, broken tenons in some joints, cracked seats and some cracks in legs.

They were all attended to with care an attention to the craftsmanship used in their creation. On removing the seats in order to repair the cracks square nails were discovered and reused so as to keep the authenticity of the piece. The tenons were replaced with new ones out of cedar, glued and clamped.

On completion they were all wiped down with a beeswax and mineral oil mix and buffed to a soft lustre.

The owner was very happy with the results and they could now be used for family get togethers.
